Mtro. Armando Manzanero (1935 - )

Pianist, compositor, producer and musical director. He was born in Mérida, on the 7th of December 1935. Son of the compositor and troubadour Santiago Manzanero and the notable Jaranera Juanita Canché Baqueiro. He is widely considered to be the most important Mexican compositor of folk music of the 2nd half of the 20th century.

Armando Manzanero is an outstanding compositor who cannot be replaced or imitated; he is also an artist who goes beyond capturing the essence of the yucatecan romanticism. Fundamentally because he was able to export the interpretation of his music, ambassador of Mexico, to the rest of the world. And above all because he was able to preserve, in spite of the new trends, the vital essence of love as the central theme of his work.

Author of internationally aclaimed themes such as Voy a apagar la luz, Somos novios, Esta tarde vi llover, Señor amor as well as a deep and abundant repertoire including hundreds of songs that were recorded by interpreters around the world, Manzanero won the Billboard prize and a Grammy latino amongst a lot of other awards. He promotes and spreads new values and is an inexhaustible manager as well as a dedicated artist devoted to his native land. He is without a doubt the most notable and international representative of the yucatecan folk music.
